Beloved: Tuesday, Nov 8th, 2022. Beto has lost the elections for governor of Texas. As he was conceding the elections, I couldn’t stop looking into Amy’s eyes. Amy sacrificed a private life to support her beloved in a selfless expedition to attend to the common good; only a lover could make such a decision.

In some sense, this dynamic between a lover and her beloved occurs in every relationship; some say it is impossible for the same person to be the lover and the beloved all at once. Loving would seem to be a feeling, but not for Amy. We can love inanimate things, but reciprocal love requires a decision, and that decision comes from a state, not a feeling.

Their relationship might appear unequal at first glance, but all relationships should ideally be established on equality, and being the lover requires an excess of love directed at the beloved. However, the lover takes equal pleasure in looking at her beloved; she will be satisfied as long as she sees her beloved is doing well.

Very few times have I seen such a strong relationship like the one Amy and Beto share. A genuine relationship consists more of loving than of being loved. It is only during difficult moments, just as when the iron is forged through fire, that we can truly appreciate the dynamic between lover and beloved.
